Postpartum Doula Services

About

A Postpartum Doula works with families in the postpartum period providing them with emotional, physical and informational support. A doula provides families with culturally appropriate emotional support to assist with the transitions of the postpartum period and having a new baby - whether it's your first or fifth baby.

Benefits

By working with a postpartum doula, you may benefit from:

  • Success with breastfeeding

  • Lower rates of postpartum depression

  • Help detecting postpartum depression sooner and finding supports

  • Higher milk production due to higher oxytocin levels (benefits from having a support system)

  • Confidence in your abilities and instincts

  • Dads/partners can transition more smoothly, too, with some expert help

  • Provide clinical support - Doulas are trained professionals who provide one-on-one emotional and informational support during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum. Doulas are not medical professionals and do not provide medical services.

  • Make decisions for you - My role is to listen to your wants and desires for your birth, answer questions based on my professional knowledge, share resources, and support the decisions you and your partner make.

  • Speak to the staff on your behalf - I am here to encourage you and your partner to be vocal about your wishes and needs.

  • Project any of my own beliefs onto your experience - I will do everything I can to support you in a unique and compassionate way, no matter what your birth choices are.

My Postpartum Doula Services

If you choose me as your postpartum doula to walk alongside you and your partner through this journey, my services include:

Emotional & Physical Support - The emotional and physical transition after birth is always a substantial one. It is vital that mom have knowledgeable, non-judgemental support during those early weeks. Whether it's talking through the birth and feelings afterwards, a referral to a trusted professional, or warm & nourishing foods and drink, evidence shows that having a trained support person is essential for every new mom.

Feeding & Baby Care - Whether breast or bottle feeding, staying at home or returning to work, feeding babies can be challenging, especially as each new baby brings his/her unique circumstances. Feeding, sleeping, bathing, diapering, babywearing - there is no shortage of questions in those early weeks! I highly value the opportunity to provide information, support, and a trusted network of resources and referrals.

Household Help - Once baby is home, the last thing mom has energy for are the everyday responsibilities of normal life. No matter how much help you have, there always seems to be more to do! This is a crucial time for mom (& dad) to recover & get to know baby. I cherish lightening those daily burdens by preparing meals, light housekeeping, entertaining siblings, running errands, or freeing up mom to shower or nap.

Happy Dad
